Chinovela vs Koreanovela vs Japanovela

THis generation has been dominated by the media. Student’s education usually includes the trimedia. Acquiring informatoin from the tv is easier than reading books and the newspaper. (Now, I admit that my English was furnished not from school but from watching a lot of American series and movies.)

The philippine television has evolved from classic action movies to reality TV. The philippine showbussiness has been importing tv shows abroad from famous American series (Dawson’s Creek, Smallville, Heroes), Mexican Teleserye (Marimar, Dos Amores) to Asianovelas (Meteor Garden, Lovers in Paris, Princes Hours).

Chinovelas are the first imported asian shows of the Philippine television. The hit drama series, Meteor Garden (I and II) has initiated the desire of the public for this kind of shows. (Its not bad to see brown skinned, narrowed-eye people appear on tv). However, the show is very complex. It has a lot of characters and twists which resulted to a number of episodes. It was followed by other chinovelas, which became a hit only for a short span of time until Koreanovelas spun the dramatic aura of primetime into romantic comedy, adding cute bubling characters and intense emotions. (Lovers in Paris, My Girl, Kim Sam Soon)

However, Koreanovelas has a bad hobby of having the same typical flow of story about characters loosing their memory and forgetting their love. Japan, famous for their manga and anime shows, is the origin of famous tv series such as Gokusen (I and II) and Hanayori Dango. They show a more creative, animatic and comical type of show. Their dialogs are more dramatic and unrealistic than of the two other novelas. However, japanovelas are more likely the live portrayal of anime.

Indeed the shows from the different countries and industries are similar in emphasizing social problems such as of poverty, ethnic and social discrimination and politics (Memories in Bali, Spring Waltz) They both portray the colorful nature of their traditions and culture. (Princes hours and Jumong). And, I think that it will continue to progress as long as the angecy would carefully choose the best shows among all.
